Brutal ATi Drivers — I think.

October 30, 2006

Man, these past two days I’ve been trying to help Pat get his box going with Fedora, but the damn graphics card won’t work. That is to say, the card works, but will not load the appropriate drivers or something. It has to do with DRI/DRM and the agp port. I don’t know if it is something we are doing (I doubt it though, I’ve ran Fedora+ATi many times) or some odd issue with the hardware combo. We are going to try an nVidia card next. Here’s hoping…

[When I find the pastes, I’ll post the errors from dmesg here]

New Project

October 29, 2006

I just thought of this while messing with wordpress. I want a RSS client. A good one. For Podcasts too. I’m making one. As per usual, it will be first done in python+wxPython. When I’m along into C/C++, I might move it over, but I can still keep the wxWidgets UI for it then. I need a name…

FC6 and painful essays

October 29, 2006

I should be working on my essay right now. I just can’t get into it. Shouldn’t have spent my day working on getting Fedora Core 6 going. It is nice to be back in a *nix environment. Programming is so much more natural feeling here, although that is probably because it is where I started more than anything else. I wish Windows could move to a unix-like OS, you know, how Mac did? Take their already existing interface, Aero, and make it a graphical server like Aqua. Sure, it’d probably take an arse-load of work, but for ALL major OSs to have a commonality like that would be awesome. Anyway, FC6 is nice. The new, dna-like look (yes, dna, not noodles. Get it? “Fedora is in your DNA?”) is real snazzy. The Distro has a nice dark, semi-gothic feel to it, which IMO is FAR superior to that hell that is *buntu. Yes, *buntu. Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Fubuntu (rumors), Nubuntu (Paddy…), Edubuntu. All of them are the *buntu hell. I should get back to my essay, although, I’m very tired of talking about racism. I think I’ll just make stuff up from here on out 😉

New Page

October 26, 2006

I don’t know that it pops up saying I made a new page, but I did. ImageCloud has its own page now. Yeah, over on your right. Might have to scroll down a little. I don’t know if I’ll host the src there, or off site. I want a free host, I’m cheap.

Whilst working on myEnglish paper, I got bored. Big surprise. Anyway, I whipped up a logo for image cloud. The camera is Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.5 . Thanks Wikipedia 😉

I’ve been doing some reading. This GPLv3 looks kinda’ controlling. I think I may want a new license (which I should probably post here). I hear that the BSD license is “true freedom.” Anyone have any opinions?

Less posts == More hits

October 25, 2006

I’ve noticed, the longer I go with out posting the more frequently I get hits via search engines. I know, it sounds like an odd correlation, but the little graphs in the Blog Stats page prove it. Anyway, I have walls now. Which rocks. Thanks Uncle Dave, Uncle John, and Anthony. Also, I went to Fright Fest this past weekend (with Anthony and Beth), that was great. Challenging the Bull at 8pm in the rain was the most fun the entire day. I’m happy Anth convinced me to save the speed pass for that. The “Terror Teacups” were a close second, but not quite there. I need to come up with a pascal project as well. I want to use ImageCloud (because it could probably benefit from a compiled version), but dictionaries are too nice. I may just ask for an assigned project.
